KDOT and KHP install additional KC Scout equipment

Recently KC Scout installed new computers and TV screens in the Olathe KDOT office, as well as a new KC Scout computer in the KHP Troop A office. These new additions will provide a safe alternative to perform a variety of work related tasks for both organizations. The computers have the software to run multiple KC Scout camera feeds through Genetec Security Center.

"It's really all about safety," explains KC Scout's KDOT Liaison Michael Flory. "This will give each organization the ability to monitor operations remotely," he explained.

Presently, most KC Scout operations are monitored and handled from the Traffic Management Center located at the MoDOT Kansas City district office.

"These new additions will be especially helpful when KC Scout calls either KDOT or KHP to let them know of a situation. They'll be able to quickly look at it and assess how they'll handle whatever the incident may be," says Flory.

For example, KDOT's Olathe office will be able to monitor construction projects, safety issues, and staffing during winter operations. KHP will have the ability to monitor their staff during traffic crashes to make sure everyone is safe and traffic control is set up correctly. Additionally, KDOT and KHP will have the ability to move the cameras themselves and monitor nine camera feeds at a time.

"We found the ability to monitor activities remotely to be highly valuable," explains KDOT Metro Engineer Michael Rineheart. "It saved some trips to job sites, affords us an opportunity to investigate issues, and we now have overall greater awareness.  KC Scout came through for us with these additional capabilities and it is greatly appreciated," he said.

Advancements and additions to KC Scout technology help both DOTs stay connected and safe.
