Traffic Incident Management training course

Several KC Scout employees recently participated in a Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training Program. This training was developed by responders for responders and helps educate individuals on responder safety, safe and quick clearance, and prompt, reliable, interoperable communications. Although the course was developed for responders, anyone who drives a motor vehicle plays a role in traffic incident management and would benefit from this information. "It is my hope that individuals develop an understanding of what actually happens on the roadway, especially at incident scenes. Including how they can either be a part of effective traffic incident management or how they’ve hindered it in the past," explains  Incident Management Coordinator Marcus Slaughter. KC Scout welcomes Matt Killion

KC Scout is delighted to welcome Matt Killion to the team. Matt was recently promoted within MoDOT to Assistant District Engineer. He will coordinate with KDOT's State ITS Engineer and Bureau Chief Shar i Hilliard as on-going support for KC Scout to continue its forward momentum. Matt began his career at MoDOT in May 1999 and has held a variety of a roles. Prior to his promotion he served as the Area Engineer of Jackson and Cass counties. Outside of work he enjoys playing and coaching soccer, cheering on Mizzou and KC sports, running, lake life, and family vacations. Welcome, Matt!

Regional TIM Committee Evolves

KC Scout Manager Randy Johnson and Incident Management Coordinator Marcus Slaughter alongside with Amanda Horner of Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) have developed a Regional Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Committee. This committee tackle s traffic incident management at a regional level and aims to create effective bi-state, multi-agency participation in order to advance traffic incident management.  Johnson says that the first step in creating this committee was to determine what the needs were in the local response community and the KC Scout/MARC Implementation team determined that those needs included: Create a dialogue for better inter-agency exercising of coordination, communication, and cooperation. Offer opportunities for inter-agency training and exercises that promote teamwork. Create a tool or plan for developing common operational strategies. Innovations Challenge recap

MoDOT held its annual innovations challenge district showcase on Tuesday, Dec. 7. KC Scout submitted two innovations that  will now compete against other districts and CO for up to 60 slots at the upcoming Statewide Innovations Showcase in Columbia in April.   Pothole CPR is an innovation submitted b y  KC Scout and MoDOT Maintenance with team members including  R andy Johnson, Michael Flory, Trisha Sen, Chris Sholl, Stephen Butler, Alfred Battle, David Winship, Greg McDowell, and Carla Fiscus. This innovation was awarded second place in the People's Choice Award category. The innovation is a tool that allows customers to quickly and accurately report any pavement conditions needing immediate attention. "The innovation utilizes the popular GPS traveling/crowd-sourcing app called WAZE and allows customers to submit real time data through voice command or with one click of a button," explains KC Scout Manager Randy Johnson. A journey of a thousand steps

KC Scout Utility Locators Chris Butler and York Morlan recently completed an impressive 146 locate tickets over a four week period. The utility work began at the west end of the Paseo along I-70 to the Blue River, including both the north and south sides of I-70.  The locate tickets were for Trekk Design Group, who was recently awarded a design contract by MoDOT this past September.  As these tickets were entered into the Missouri One Call System, both locators began the on-foot process of locating, marking, and linking all fiber and power connections that drive KC Scout devices. This effort involved walking the five miles of the corridor, carrying all the necessary equipment to perform the locates along terrain that is seldom level.  KC Scout's two locators (Butler and Morlan) are primarily responsible for locating underground fiber and power connections along the metro KC Missouri right of way.
