Scout Representative Attends TMC Pooled Fund Study in Austin, Texas

They say everything’s bigger in Texas, and the 2025 TMC Pooled Fund Study (PFS) was no different. While this event is typically held in the spring, this year it was moved to the fall, providing the opportunity to pair the study with Texas DOT’s Transportation Systems Management & Operations (TMSO) Summit, making the event bigger and better. Traffic Systems Supervisor, Kelly Alvarez attended this year’s event in Austin, Texas. “The range of topics for the TSMO Summit and the TMC PFS are so vast,” says Alvarez. “Everything from cyber security, to V2X (short for Vehicle-to-Everything referring to technology that allows vehicles to communicate with other vehicles, pedestrians, infrastructure, and networks), to TMC best practices, roadway and incident detection systems, World Cup, Dynamic Message Sign policy, Motorist Assist programs, Drones, etc. were discussed.”

Having an event such as this one, where individuals from various state DOTs and Federal Highway Associations come together to discuss ways to improve the management, operation, and capabilities of TMC’s nationwide make this event extremely beneficial for KC Scout year after year. Alvarez took full advantage of the 9-hour days, packed with loads of important information. “It is, admittedly, hard to completely digest. As habit would have it, I took copious amounts of notes which I plan to go through to see if there is anything KC Scout may want to explore and adopt,” said Alvarez.
