KC Scout unveils new interactive organizational chart

Image
To get a copy of the org chart, please contact Randy Johnson, Lairyn McGregor, or Nancy Powell. KC Scout is made up of numerous team members on both the Missouri and Kansas side of the metr o area. Proper communication and teamwork amongst these various roles is key to Scout’s continued success. The push for connectedness led KC Scout to create their very own interactive organizational chart with information to help employees get to know one another and also establish a chain of communication. While it may look like a standard flow chart at first glance, this tool actually dives much further than initially meets the eye. "Teamwork is really the basis of Kansas City Scout. The people are the foundation of our success. If you have a great team, there's nothing that can't be done," says KC Scout Manager Randy Johnson.  The idea to create a tool to better connect and introduce the team to new employees was first introduced by TMC Operations Manager, Amy Stevinson. S

KDOT and KHP install additional KC Scout equipment

Recently KC Scout installed new computers and TV screens in the Olathe KDOT office, as well as a new KC Scout computer in the KHP Troop A office. These new additions will provide a safe alternative to perform a variety of work related tasks for both organizations. The computers have the software to run multiple KC Scout camera feeds through Genetec Security Center. "It's really all about safety," explains KC Scout's KDOT Liaison Michael Flory. "This will give each organization the ability to monitor operations remotely," he explained. Presently, most KC Scout operations are monitored and handled from the Traffic Management Center located at the MoDOT Kansas City district office. "These new additions will be especially helpful when KC Scout calls either KDOT or KHP to let them know of a situation. They'll be able to quickly look at it and assess how they'll handle whatever the incident may be," says Flory. For example, KDOT's Olathe offi

TMC new operator training

KC Scout is made up of a skilled group of experts all working towards one goal: reducing traffic jams by improving rush-hour speeds, increasing safety, decreasing incidents, and responding to traffic situations. A key part of this group are the traffic management center operators - the eyes and ears of KC Scout. KC Scout strives to invest in its team to ensure they employ the best of the best. So how are these operators trained? In addition to the wide variety of experience they bring to KC Scout, the team is also provided with additional training from an expert - Training and Innovations Coordinator, Mary Bundridge. Bundridge got her start in traffic management at KC Scout as an operator herself. Over the years, she worked her way up and gained a wealth of supervisor and project management experience. She now shares her knowledge with multiple traffic management centers by hosting workshops and various trainings. "Even though I now support several TMCs, I have to admit, I have a

Pothole reporting: We're all in this together

When it comes to improving the driving experience, we're truly all in this together.  KC Scout strives to stay ahead of the game when it comes to researching and implementing new technologies that help keep metro KC roadways safe. One of these new technologies allows motorists to report roadway concerns in real time and KC Scout recently piloted a program that used this technology to track potholes in the metro area.  Reported potholes are displayed as pins on Maps. Over the years, the team has partnered with several crowd sourcing companies in order to better serve KC area travelers. One of these companies is WAZE, an app that allows drivers to report real-time traffic information such as traffic back ups, accidents, emergency vehicles, weather conditions, and more.  This new technology is both real time and powered by motorists on the roadway. It provides KC Scout's traffic management center with instant and more accurate information about issues along KC roadways. "Cust
