Emergency Responder Carlos Campos receives People Saving People Award

Emergency Responder Carlos Campos’ assistance continues to go above and beyond; so much so that he was awarded the People Saving People award from the Missouri Law Enforcement Traffic Safety Advisory Council (LETSAC) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Campos recently responded to call for a stalled vehicle. When he arrived, the driver was out of the vehicle, and Campos stopped him from walking into traffic and from getting back behind the wheel.

Campos said he realized the driver had hit something and was also impaired. Campos told the TMC dispatcher to inform the Kansas City Police about the collision and possible DUI suspect.

Meanwhile, the driver got out of the car. Campos said he focused on keeping the individual out of traffic until the police arrived.

“The driver did display several signs of impairment, and the driver was arrested for DUI,” Police Officer Jordan Infranca wrote in an email to MoDOT. “I am going to send Mr. Campos a KCPD DUI coin for his keen observations in regards to the impaired driver and thank him for keeping our Kansas City Roads and Interstates clear and safe.”

Campos has a reputation for going above and beyond (Emergency responder excels at roadside safety). In 2020, he used his truck to stop a vehicle that was rolling toward a police officer (Emergency Response Operator Carlos Campos saves KCPD officer from rolling F-150).

For Campos, it’s all part of a day’s work.
